The Elements of a Goal

Know Your Audience

You can't be effective selling a product or a service without knowing your audience in social media either. To answer this basic question about your business will help you to find where your customers are going on the internet. Make sure you stay up with latest trends. Don't assume for instance that Baby Boomers aren't Twittering or you will  miss great opportunities that exist to find out what they are talking about, and you want the subject to be your service, product, or area of blogging interest.  In fact, don't assume anything about your audience.

So why don't you look at answering the following questions to figure out who your audience is and where they visit on-line.  After you answer these questions, you can narrow down what social media medium you will use.  You may find out after time that only a few mediums are needed for you to accomplish getting your message out.

  1. What is the big picture?  What is the big outcome you expect from social media if you are going to put time into using it.
  2. Who? Remember you must know your audience. The same tools used in brick and mortar businesses are very similar. Will you use demographic tools? Psychographics? Consider simply using search engines to keep updated on latest information about your customers.
  3. What resources will you need?

You can find information needed on social media from this site. You can also follow the. Blog Cafe in our menu of topics at the top of the page.

Good luck on learning about your customer with social media.  What an opportunity!
